Wicked trailer

In terms of scale and budget, Wicked is one of the biggest musical adaptations, if not the biggest, in Hollywood history. The two-art adaptation of the wonderful Broadway hit is a massive undertaking for director Jon M. Chu (In the Heights), the crew, and Universal, producing two films based on the show. Based on the Wicked trailer, the potential awards contender and holiday season hit is not lacking in production value.

In Jon M. Chu’s entertaining memoir, “Viewfinder,” he noted he wanted as many practical sets as possible for Wicked. The reliable crews in London made it happen. No doubt the film’s production team will receive accolades this fall and beyond, including production designer Nathan Crowley (Interstellar), costume designer Paul Tazewell (Hamilton), and Chu’s long-time collaborator, cinematographer Alice Brooks (In the Heights). A great team assembled for the musical, which is the exact kind of film Chu knows how to knock out of the park.

Wicked: Part I opens in theaters on November 22nd.
