Nightbitch is one of Searchlight Pictures’ awards contenders this year. With the combination of director Marielle Heller and star Amy Adams alone, the prospects are high. The two artists joined pairs for the dark comedy, which at Immersive Media, we’ll have coverage from at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Here’s the first Nightbitch trailer:

Heller previously directed Diary of a Teenage Girl and Can You Ever Forgive Me? In short, she’s an excellent director. She mines drama from comedy and vice-versa with a great eye for human behavior. For Nightbitch, the filmmaker worked alongside cinematographer Brandon Trost (The Disaster Artist), editor Anne McCabe (Can You Ever Forgive Me?), production designer Karen Murphy (Elvis), and Arjun Bhasin (Life of Pi). The talent behind the camera is as exciting as the team in front of it.

Nightbitch opens in theaters in December.
