He gave a fantastic performance as Jim Morrison in Oliver Stone’s The Doors (1991). This is the role he will probably be best remembered for, as he completely inhabited the real-life singer. He relentlessly prepared, memorizing all the lyrics to the songs and dressing like Morrison for a year, even wearing black contact lenses to mimic being perpetually inebriated. As Morrison and in all of his performances, he had a level of unpredictability that made him compelling to watch.

After a thoughtful and thorough process to identify the future location of the Sundance Film Festival, today the nonprofit Sundance Institute’s Board of Trustees is proud to announce that Boulder, Colorado, will become the Festival’s home beginning in 2027. Boulder offers small-town charm with an engaged community, distinctive natural beauty, and a vibrant arts scene, making it the ideal location for the Festival to grow.

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) Film Society proudly announces its 2025 Screening Series, showcasing the exceptional work of acclaimed production designers and set decorators through curated film screenings. Each screening will be followed by exclusive interviews or live panel discussions featuring industry legends such as production designers Eugenio Caballero, Mark Friedberg, Sarah Greenwood, Kristi Zea, and set decorator Katie Spencer.

The ACE Eddie Awards, a celebration of the craft of film editing, was held this past weekend on March 14, 2025. Myron Kerstein, ACE, Juliette Welfling, and Mary Blee are among some of the winners for their work in this year’s top acclaimed movies: Wicked, Emilia Pérez, and The Wild Robot, respectively. Friday was also a night of remembrance for the tragedy of the Altadena and Palisades fires, with nods to the heroes who helped fight them.

It’s an indie film at its core. A film that no studio exec at any major studio would greenlight. Baker spent his career in the trenches of low-budget films with an unwavering vision to present films that spotlight marginalized people while never pandering or preaching. At once, it is a modern film with adult themes and subject matter juxtaposed with Lubitschian comedy that hearkens back to the early days of Hollywood.

The Art Directors Guild (ADG, IATSE Local 800) presented the 29th Annual Excellence in Production Design Awards in a ceremony hosted by actress and comedian Rachael Harris. For the Excellence in Production Design in a Feature Film awards categories, Craig Lathrop won the Period Feature Film award for “Nosferatu,” Nathan Crowley took home the Fantasy Feature Film award for “Wicked” and Suzie Davies won the Contemporary Feature Film award for “Conclave.”

The Make-Up Artists & Hair Stylists Guild (IATSE Local 706) announced winners of its 12th Annual MUAHS Awards, presented by L’Oréal Groupe and Giovanni Eco Chic Beauty, before a live audience at The Fairmont Century Plaza Hotel. The MUAHS Awards recognize excellence in the artistry and creativity of Make-Up Artists and Hair Stylists in 23 categories, including motion pictures, television, music videos and theater entertainment. This year, the theater category has expanded to include Broadway and international theater productions. The MUAHS Awards was also livestreamed to an audience of millions worldwide on YouTube and Vimeo.
