Detective Sugar (Colin Farrell) will return in Sugar season two. Audiences and critics responded well to season one. Arguably, the show deserves more love for its ambitious narrative and substantial style, the latter of which did earn cinematographer Richard Rutkowski an Emmy Nomination for outstanding cinematography. The Apple TV+ program is an excellent sci-fi drama, a film noir with a bold twist.
Spoiler: Sugar ain’t human.
He’s studying humanity, and along the way, he gets in too deep with a murder mystery. Season one didn’t end with a cliffhanger, but it did end with promise, potentially for more cases for Sugar, played with a kindness and vulnerability that Farrell makes ring true like few movie stars do.
Series creator Mark Protosevich (The Cell) is no longer the showrunner. Sam Catlin, who ran AMC’s Preacher, is taking over duties there. For Sugar season two, Caitlin and all involved will send Sugar back to Los Angeles, trying to solve another missing person case.
Sugar is available to stream on Apple TV+.
