The story of Shōgun isn’t over. Originally described as a miniseries, a season two of the hit FX series is in the cards now after the network signed a deal with Hiroyuki Sanada to reprise his role of Lord Yoshii Toranaga. According to Deadline, a Shōgun season 2 still requires more ink to paper to get all the wheels in motion, but with the secured return of its star and producer, things are looking good.

A decision will be made soon, of course, whether the series will compete in The Emmys as a limited series or drama series. Given the news of Sanada’s deal, the likely is latter for the series from creators Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, based on James Clavell‘s novel. Without question, the epic series is a heavyweight contender in this season’s awards race.

Shōgun is an impeccable piece of filmmaking, just a perfect balance of drama and spectacle. The scale is nothing short of breathtaking, and the characters every bit as thrilling as the titanic battles and sights. ‘So, yes please, FX, to a Shōgun season 2.
