Joker wasn’t only a pop cultural phenomenon when it was released, but a serious awards contender. It earned Joaquin Phoenix an Oscar for his performance. Love, hate, or indifference to the film itself, the performance was universally praised. Phoenix returns to the role in the Todd Phillips‘ sequel, Joker: Folie À Deux, which co-stars Lady Gaga and will make its debut at the Venice Film Festival.

Cinematographer Lawrence Sher, clearly, continues to do strong work with Phillips. Those two go way back, having shot the Hangover movies together. With the musical numbers, Sher’s work likely won’t disappoint, nor will music from the Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir.
