Ridley Scott is not a man to waste time. The filmmaking machine is back in November with Gladiator II, which he’s called one of the best movies he’s ever made, featuring one of his biggest action sequences to date. Scott has never been shy to praise his own work — and who can fault him? –but nonetheless, the filmmaker returning to Colosseum is promising spectacle. Based on the trailer, Scott & Co. might deliver more than the goods.

Here’s the Gladiator II trailer:

Perhaps one of the most promising ingredients here? Cinematographer John Mathieson, who shot the original Gladiator. He’s got a golden eye. In the last few years, Scott’s movies have lived a little more in the grey, which for storytelling purposes made sense, but to see Scott’s action in the crisp, hard sun shot through Mathieson’s lens? We’re all for it.

Gladiator II opens in theaters November 22nd.
