Anora is the latest film from Sean Baker, director of The Florida Project, Red Rocket and Tangerine. Baker has been very prolific in presenting universal human stories that date back to the best of the ’70’s Hollywood era and more recently the ’90s independent era. By centering the story on a prostitute in a compassionate way and exploring the life of someone on the fringes, Baker continues to humanize those whom society judges harshest.
Winner of the Palme d’Or this year at Cannes, this is one of the must-see films of the upcoming Oscar season. This is the 5th Palme d’Or acquisition by Neon, which had successfully launched campaigns for Anatomy of a Fall, Triangle of Sadness, and Parasite, which won Best Picture. The distributor just landed their biggest opening weekend yet with Longlegs.
Here is the Anora trailer set to the classic Blondie tune “Dreaming,” a song that keeps running in your head long after its over:
Anora opens in theaters October 18th.
