Robert Downey Jr. isn’t the only movie star making their broadway debut this year. A movie Downey Jr. co-starred in, Good Night, and Good Luck, is getting the stage treatment from its co-writer, director, and co-star, George Clooney. Clooney adapted his film about Edward R. Murrow with his co-writer and producing partner,  Grant Heslov.

Clooney will star as the legendary newsman Murrow. The role earned David Stratharin a nomination for Best Actor at the Academy Awards. It’s an exception film that Clooney made, in part, to honor his father, journalist Nick Clooney.

Good Night, and Good Luck will open on Broadway in Spring, 2025 at the Shubert Theatre. “I am honored, after all these years, to be coming back to the stage and especially, to Broadway,” Clooney said in a statement, “the art form and the venue that every actor aspires to.”

David Cromer is directing the stage adaptation. He previously had success translating a film to stage with The Band’s Visit. “Edward R. Murrow operated from a kind of moral clarity that feels vanishingly rare in today’s media landscape,” Cromer added. “There was an immediacy in those early live television broadcasts that today can only be effectively captured on stage, in front of a live audience.”
