The world already has one great movie about Bob Dylan, I’m Not There, from filmmaker Todd Haynes. If the world gets another stellar picture about the legendary musician, who’s currently on tour with Willie Nelson, then aren’t we lucky? Timothée Chalamet stars as the living legend for director James Mangold, who well-handled the Johnny Cash story, Walk the Line. Mangold’s new “biopic” is called A Complete Unknown.

The fact that the movie focuses on a very specific time in Dylan’s life inspires some hope. Nobody wants a conventional movie about Bob Dylan’s life. Mangold is an old-school craftsman, but he does have the artist’s passion to bring honest life to a Dylan picture. The filmmaker reunites with Walk the Line cinematographer Phedon Papamichael and costume designer Arianna Phillips for A Complete Unknown, as well as Logan production designer François Audouy. Expect awards chatter for this remarkable crew.

A Complete Unknown opens in theaters this December. Meanwhile, perhaps go revisit Bob Dylan’s performance and magnificent soundtrack in Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid.
