The war against humanity and extraterrestrials will carry on in a 3 Body Problem season 2. Not only a second season, but also the final season. The almost comically ambitious show from creators Alex Woo, D.B. Weiss, and David Benoiff have plenty more story to tell, given that the Trisolarans are lightyears and lightyears away from reaching Earth to crush the bugs, but Netflix and all involved will conclude the story in chapter two.
Only one more season is surprising, but the showrunners are pleased to return to the doomed world of 3 Body Problem. “We’re thrilled that we get to tell this story through to its epic conclusion,” the showrunners said in a statement. “Ever since we read the last page of Cixin Liu’s magnificent trilogy, we hoped we’d be able to bring the audience to the end of the universe with us. Here we go!”
The trio of storytellers originally envisioned four seasons of the show. It’s hard to imagine how they’ll wrap up everything going on already, but then again, season one did an exceptional job handling a lot of story without sacrificing the characters and the drama. No word yet on how many episodes Netflix ordered of the strong Emmy contender.
